Set in 9ct gold, this  substantial padlock clasp is in full working order and snaps shut nicely.  It is beautifully and ornately engraved on the front and back, but the front also features a large (9mm x 10mm) central cabachon garnet.    

Antique and vintage jewellery was heavy in symbolism and such padlocks were usually given and worn as love tokens.   
This beautiful padlock's versitility means you can either slip it onto a split ring or charm bracelet, or  thread a fine chain through its central bale, to wear it as a pendant.

This is a large padlock, measuring 3cm long x 2.8cm wide.  It remains in splendid condition, and is a good weight of 7.75g.
